 Drop & Catch Print

For athletes up to 10 years old or as a lead-up exercise to “Circle Catch,” try this reaction and reflex development drill. In this  “Drop and Catch” exercise, simply hold a ball with the palm of the hand facing down. The goal is to drop the ball, bend your knees and catch the ball before it hits the ground. If needed, start off even more slowly by letting the ball bounce. Just be sure to catch it with your palm still facing down.

Try this exercise first with your right hand and then your left. Then, try it with one ball in each hand.

Note: Ideally, do not lift your hand up to toss the ball upwards. Instead, just drop the ball from an outstretched hand and race to beat gravity.
